The children of eligible Job Corps non-residential students may
receive free developmental day care at an on-campus child care facility.
Child care is provided by a partnership between the San Jose Job Corps and Head Start.
Job Corps operates the child care center's infant facility, which
has an eight child capacity per state license.
Head Start operates the early childhood component for 16 toddlers,
as well as the pre-school that is licensed for 45 children.
Only Job Corps students are eligible for the infant section, and
Job Corps students receive priority enrollment for the toddler and
pre-school Head Start services.
This makes Head Start's child care services available to over 20
families from the local East San Jose community, an area that has
few such child care options.
This partnership also provides a continuity of career development
services for students who graduate from Job Corps. These graduates
can retain Head Start child care for up to two years following graduation,
allowing for an easier transition into the workforce.
