Academic Courses

The San Jose Job Corps Center provides educational courses designed to provide trainees with the academic skills and knowledge to earn a GED or high school diploma, or to upgrade skills to levels needed for vocational training success and employability. The intent is to develop in each trainee individual learning skills, continuous improvement and lifelong learning.

Each course will have prerequisites based on levels achieved in diagnostic testing or demonstrated skill levels. Competency testing to evaluate overall progress and achievement levels can include the GED testing, Tests of Basic Adult Education (TABE), Job Corps vocational competency tests, writing proficiency tests, and other competency tests.

Instruction is tailored to the learning styles and abilities of individual trainees. It is delivered in the context of projects or real work situations whenever possible and integrates the academic, social development, vocational, and other competencies.
