TFIís theory of change was developed by members
of the board and staff who engaged in a thoughtful planning
and reflection process that was facilitated by BTW Consultants
‚ informing change. The purpose of the theory is to define
the long-term intentions of TFI as an organization of social
change and to uncover the assumptions that underlie those
intentions. The theory describes populations served or influenced,
strategies employed and desired outcomes (see
Theory of Change graphic). Having a theory of change enables
staff to carefully map and align program strategies to desired
outcomes and develop indicators to measure progress toward
meeting those outcomes. In creating a theory of change it
is important to articulate how the organization perceives
the world in which it operates and the rationale for its very
existence (see
Strategic Orientation graphic).
While TFI does not directly produce social benefit, it does intend to produce better
philanthropy and better philanthropy, in turn, has the potential to
produce improved social benefit.
