Social Development
At the San Jose Job Corps Center there is a focus on social development. The Job Corp social development department oversees these activities through supervised dormitory life, including guidance counseling, recreation, non-residential activities, and social skills training.
Resident advisors work in the dorms to assist students with developing interpersonal skills and with meeting their personal responsibilities in a group living setting.
Recreation staff provides leisure-time activities, leadership development including student government and leadership training, and opportunities for personal growth. Student leaders give guidance to the Job Corps management about rules, within the limits set by law and regulation, about food service, about dress codes, and about the kinds of recreation activities offered to students.
Guidance counselors work with each student to assure that their personal career development plans (PCDP) are up-to-date and that evaluations of student progress are current and useful in helping students see their progress and helpful in assuring that they remain on-target towards their goals in Job Corps and beyond.
