Building Nonprofits' Effectiveness:
Creative Grants That Keep on Giving
Thursday, July 21, 2005
Time: 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
At The Foundation Incubator
Presenters: Mary Gregory, Program Officer, Pacific Foundation Services
Joan Libman, Vice President, INNW Fund
Most foundations don't fund grants that help organizations build
capacity and become more effective. Yet because these grants allow a
great deal of (both) creativity and cost effectiveness, they provide
a wonderful focus for a foundation, or an addition to a grantmaking portfolio.
Capacity building grants run the gamut. They have supported technology;
financial audits; a retail consultant; a part-time driver; marketing materials;
planning, fundraising, staffing assessments; a psychologist; personnel manuals;
and much, much more. Come hear stories from two grantmakers who have made
capacity building grants and hear why they are enthusiastic about this strategy.
